2014 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Edward James Estate 750ML ,

The2014 vintage was the third straight outstanding growing season in a row,following the excellent 2012 and 2013 vintages. Dry winter and springconditions limited canopy vigor, and a warm growing season with a lack ofextreme heat spikes resulted in prolonged, even ripening through harvest. Theresulting wines possess great site specificity, depth and quality.


Winemaking:

Hand-harvested,picked at night

Wholecluster pressed while still cold from the field

Barrelfermented with indigenous yeasts; 7 months to completion

Spontaneousmalolactic fermentation

Aged15 months in French oak barrels; 65% new

Coopers:François Frères, Cadus, Damy, Louis Latour, and Remond

Agedsur lies with biweekly bâtonnage

Unfinedand unfiltered; bottled January 2016

Fromthe heritage selections of chardonnay planted in our Edward James EstateVineyard, named for Paul’s great-grandfather, this pale straw-hued wine boastsintriguing aromas of baking spices, Anjou pear, white peach, and exotic hintsof ginger. Concentrated, rich and vibrant on the palate, layers of juicy fruitare underpinned by refreshing acidity. Aged 15 months in French oak barrels,65% new.
